One week later, I’ve finally seen The Social Network, and I am so happy that I am now able to talk about it, firsthand! At least a dozen times a day this past week, I’ve been asked what I’ve thought of The Social Network movie, and I can now say that I loved it… as I correctly predicted I would.  I remember first hearing about facebook, and now I work with businesses to incorporate facebook into their marketing campaigns.  Oh, how I wished I still had a .edu address when my brother first told me about facebook while he was in college and I was an alumni, on MySpace.

Do you think it was it a coincidence that I went back to grad school in 2004?

No, I was not one of the bazllion 500 million people I saw posting their status update as: ” I’m updating my facebook status while watching The Social Network movie!”   Were you one of them?

C’mon…really?!  Instead I was rolling my eyes while reading those statuses (stati?) and I saw the movie one week later than you.  Sounds like we’re even!

Please note, that I am not a person that can remember movie lines, which actor was in which movie, and sometimes I have trouble remembering if I saw that movie or just wanted too. I don’t think I’ve ever had a year where I’ve seen all of the Best Picture Academy Award nominees, but I do love the movie going experience, and I couldn’t wait to see The Social Network Movie. It did not disappoint.  The IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) app is not on my phone, although it probably should be… and might be after tonight.

Why the change of heart?

Despite all of that not remembering I am very observant, and I noticed an anachronism (an object/concept that didn’t exist at the time the film was set) which stuck out to me as an error the second I spotted it. Partway through the film I pointed it out to my friend, and after the movie she checked out The Social Network movie stats on IMDb and told me that it had not yet been reported as a goof! (Unrelated side note: on multiple occasions people have called me “Eagle Eye Ravit” and “Eagle Eye Korin,” once after finding a former manager’s wallet on the sidewalk of Kansas City hours after it was lost!) But I digress…

I ran home and logged into IMDb, became a registered user, and added the goof to their database immediately before telling the world via You Tube.  Well, the catch is we have to wait for a few weeks for the site to review the accuracy of my user submitted content and then it may get published, so keep checking back!

I really enjoyed the movie, and it was fascinating to see the origins of a $25 billion dollar idea. I loved watching the site “go viral” as facebook’s popularity spread from campus to campus and across continents!  I was also a rower in college, I was on  the varsity Crew team my freshman year at University of Michigan, so of course I loved all of the crew scenes.  It was so cool to see “facebook me,” “facebooking,” and  “I facebooked you”  become part of the world’s vernacular.  Watching an idea evolve (no matter who’s idea it actually was) is truly inspiring and I love to watch the entrepreneurial spirit in action.  Yes, I did go home and order The Accidental Billionaires from Amazon!

This morning I posted a status update on my interactiveAmy’s Facebook Fan Page, it was business as usual.

This afternoon I came back to see the following:

Do you notice anything different?

You no longer have the option to become a “Fan!” Facebook today changed Pages from “Fan” to “Like.”

They explained, “We believe this change offers you a more light-weight and standard way to connect with people, things and topics in which you are interested.”

So what does that really mean?

Do you "Like" me or "Like me, Like me?"

When you click “Like” on a Page, you are making a connection to that Page. The Page will be displayed in your profile, and in turn, you will be displayed on the Page as a person who likes that Page. The Page will also be able to post content into your News Feed.

According to wikipedia, a fan, sometimes also called aficionado or supporter, is a person with an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for something.  Hmmm, what’s so heavy about that?!
