Is Making Concert Plans Easier with Technology?

This weekend I am going fishing… to three Phish concerts that is!

Phish is one of my favorite bands and I have been going to their concerts for years.  My how times have changed!  Back in the day (mid 1990′s) I remember going to concerts without a cell phone!  How did we find friends? How did we make plans?  Oh yeah, the old fashioned way!  Actually being where you said you were going to be at the designated time.

Today, we have cell phones, text messaging, email, facebook, twitter, and a bazillion other tools to help facilitate plan making.  But does that mean concert plan making is easier nowadays?

You can attend a pre-show Tweet-up to meet fellow fans before a concert, facebook status updates allow you to know which of your friends are going to be there and you can even use a facebook group to organize a party bus for safe ride sharing.  After the show, you can also have instant access to concert set lists and video highlights.  LivePhish provides next day downloads of the concert, and YEMblog posts great concert footage and review of Phish shows!

Ever been at a concert or in a crowd and the cell network is busy, or you don’t have Internet signal?  Did it lead to plan making hell?  Please share your best concert going/plan making tips so we can learn from you!  What do you think, has technology made plan making easier or more complicated?

I have not been to a concert that did that, but to a bar in downtown St. Louis. Apparently there were signals that were drowning out cellphone coverage.

  2. It never fails to have technology fail backup plan. In my case, we try to pick a place consistent across venues and meet there at the end of the night if we are missing people or unable to reach them via email/phone/im/twitter/facebook/smoke signals/etc. Someplace like the police area is usually good because you can’t miss it. Have fun with the rest of your concert experiences!
